EDIT: This is a visual novel. While it does contain sexually explicit scenes, it is not a 'fuck fest'. My purpose in writing is to tell a story.

Giles is a simple (but successful) goatherd and farmer, who wants to marry the local tavern-keeper's daughter.
However, the tavern-keeper would prefer that his daughter marry the wealthy merchant's son.
Nevertheless, the tavern-keeper promises to give his daughter to Giles, if Giles succeeds in completing a Quest for him.
(However, is the tavern-keeper completely scrupulous?).

Giles must go forth, for the first time in his life, into the unknown Wilderness, in order to win the hand of his lady fair.
He must gather what preliminary knowledge he can, and equip himself, to prepare for the adventure.
And then set forth ...

Will Giles succeed in winning his lady love?
Or, will his adventures with the strange and unknown creatures, people, and places he encounters along his journey lead him onto a different path?
Perhaps better? Or far, far worse?

There are multiple outcomes to this story.
You, the Player, will determine the outcome, based on the choices you make for him.

Choose wisely.
[And, Save early, and often ...]

Technical stuff:
System requirements: A web browser that is capable of playing HTML 5. This has been tested using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera, on a PC running Windows 7. It should run on a MAC system using Safari, Firefox, Opera and Google Chrome, and on a Linux system using Firefox, Opera and Google Chrome browsers.

Known issues:
1. There are screen size and save/load misalignment issues with Internet Explorer 11. While the game is playable, I recommend you use another browser.
2. On a Linux system using Chrome, you might get a blank black screen. This can be fixed by telling Chrome to allow the game to set local data.
3. Depending on your browser and browser settings, save game information may disappear when you close your browser.
Note: Rapidly clicking to skip dialog may cause the VN to crash, or skip visuals.
See the readme file for troubleshooting information. If you get stuck in the game, I've included a spoilers file.

I really enjoyed the story. It was well paced beautifully illustrated.

However, the battle scenes were quite simplistic and didn't require any actual strategy, slashing repeatedly seemed to work every time.

In the absence of a more fleshed out system you might be better off having something along the lines of this:

a) aggressively swing at his body
b) dodge and counter-attack
c) tire him out with blocks and parries

Where one or two of the options will result in victory, the options altered for each opponent.

Just an idea for future stories.

The story was good, really enjoyed the game, I don't know if it's only in my head but I find your graphically skills improved in models and scene construction.

@BeanBean,
Thank you for playing "Giles' Journey" and making comments. The only payment I get for my work is counting the number of downloads and reading comments. I'm glad you like the art and pacing of the story.

The 'combat system' is simplistic by design. I don't think people play my visual novels for combat scenes (note that I didn't mention battles in the promotional post). That's why I included the spoilers file, so that folks who don't like mini-games can still play and enjoy the story. Implementing a more complex combat system is beyond my current programming skills. Making the one I did and debugging it was a pain. From my own game playing experience, nothing torques me more in an adult game than encountering a difficult battle or other mini-game that a player must win to advance.

If I make another visual novel involving battles, I might include more complex (read difficult) battle scenes if enough folks who like my work request it.

@Rexxx,
Thank you, I'm glad you liked the story and enjoyed the game. Thank you for commenting on the difference in the art, and that you think I've improved. I like to think so, too. I'm still learning.

Over 1500 downloads in 24 hours.

Very respectfully,
fleet

Fleet, enjoyed the visual novel. I agree that they seem to be getting better and better. Liked the different ways the game could progress. Looking forward to more.

Like I have already said it would be beautiful if all the people that play and appreciate a game would say this to the author, but seen that this is impossible the numbers of those download your work is the symbol of this.
If the game would be bad the numbers wouldn't be so high, I hope to continue see new works from you for a long time.

thanks for your game.
I enjoyed it. Thanks to the save system, the game's not too difficult to complete.
I've get some errors while playing video scenes. Game was crashing, I had to restart it.

Keep your work ! Add more sex scenes, cumshot, anal ?

Thanks

Thank you for playing and providing feedback. About the only time the game will crash during the videos is if the player clicks too quickly (or repeatedly) while a cut scene is playing.
I don't do cumshots or anal scenes.

Thank you very much! I appreciate comments like that a lot. I plan to continue to make visual novels, but do not currently have any in development.

@jfrancois323,
Thank you. I will continue to make visual novels. Based on a gameplay video of Giles' Journey, I estimate that finding all of the endings should take 90 minutes.
Very respectfully,
fleet

Checked the video files. Shame there's no ending where you return to the dragon-slayer girl's town.
