You should explain step by step everything you are doing and maybe shark can help you. And you do not need a file association to download files so whatever it is you're talking about, it isn't downloading.

WHAT are you trying to download ? Give us the link, and we can answer you.
Or give us the .xxx at the end of the file
You can also search with google : there are many forums where people ask "how can i open a .xxx file" and other people give answer and link.

Hi, joker,
A few minutes ago I tested the download of the "Late Night at the Office" game from the Horny Gamer site. It worked OK, no problems appeared. As to your problem I can assume only two possibilties of obstacles: 1) your browser (f.e.Internet Explorer) has blocked the file. It is shown on top of the screen and there you only have to click on it and unlock the blocking in the appearing window . 2) the game is a swf-file and you probably need to install a flash-player. In the most cases, when the instalment of a flash-player is required, the screen offers you the download of the Adobe Flash-player 9.0 (freeware)automatically. There should be a download button. If not, simply search with google and download the flash-player.

Joker,
if your computer runs with windows (if it runs with linux or if it's a mac, i don't know how proceeding) right-click on the file, then choose "open with", then choose "choose software". In the list of softwares, choose your webbrowser and check the box "always use this software for opening this type of file".
Then follow the Arnulf's answer just below for installing falsh-player if needed.
Hope my translation of my french windows menu are correct.
