I can't use https here. @shark maybe use letsencrypt free ssl ?

Sidenote: I hope that forum engine is up to date.

Sorry, I don't understand, I'm not a computer technician. Why do you want to use https?

http://www.the-new-lagoon.com - current
https://www.the-new-lagoon.com - encrypted - it does not work.

So our passwords etc. are plaintext. It is common, modern technique to use HTTPS everywhere :)

https://letsencrypt.org/ - free certificates. Some hosting companies (like OVH) offer automatic installation. Forum engine may need some changes in config though.

PS. Consider implementing service like couldflare, it has numerous advantages, like ddos protection, free ssl certs etc.

Any word on making your forum more secure Shark by implementing what CobraPL suggested?, just curious as it would make the forum way less prone to hacking like the last time all the good stuff was lost on it.

PayPal is a no-no on any adult or non-vanilla site -- for a financial transfer and escrow business they are extremely morally judgemental. In my view they should reserve their frowns for criminal endeavours only.

I do not have much knowledge of web and I do not understand what https would bring more to the forum...

NOTE: I am not stating an opinion on changing the forum to use HTTP, just answering the following question.
shark wrote:...and I do not understand what https would bring more to the forum...
It would encrypt the transmission of the login username/password thus potentially making that part of the site more secure.

Shark, some people are not techy, so they actually use same password for Your forum and somewhere else. This is one of the reasons why such forum should use encrypted connections.

I just suggest finding someone who both you trust and he or she knows something about forum/webpage setup, hosting, cloudflare, ssl etc. Then mayeb delegate that work to that person.

Forum software also should be checked. For example Hongfire was totally hacked for ransom.

Hi Shark,

I find it somewhat weird You reply to others and ignore me, esp with my level of coding knowledge, but no matter, below are a few links on how to setup https:// - SSL as most would call it, adding https:// before the forum url address, will make it WAY more secure esp when members are logging on as their respective passwords will then be encrypted.

Secure your site with HTTPS
Protect your site and your users

https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6073543?hl=en

How to get HTTPS: Setting up SSL on your website

You can also update the actual forum software its self, from the Admin Control Panel which you have full access to, by updating the forum software You make it WAY more secure also and less likely to being hacked by the average school boy is who bored.

Update the forum software first.
Then read up from the above links and add https:// aka SSL to the forum url.

Both will make the forum WAY more secure and You will be less likely to another hack and loss of a bunch of cool stuff.

I read several pages (in French, easier for me) about the configuration of a phpbb forum in https. Many who have tried had problems. I am very hesitant...
