Since "desire and submission" is on-line, the website is very slow. The visitors are increasingly numerous in the lagoon and the server cannot respond all the requests.
I am a little worried.
I had thought of increasing the power of the server but " paypal" has just closed my account ("account used for diffusing of sexual contents"... sexual? ... the lagoon?!!!.... maybe...) and I cannot benefit any more from the donations I received sometimes and which helped me to pay the server subscrïption.....

I remember…. a few years ago, I decided to try to build a small website to see if I was able to do it. After a few months, I managed to have 2000 visitors per day and I was very very proud !
2000 visitors... what a success for me !... just because a little game I had made in the aim to learn how to use visual basic and I had named "sweet Alison"

Today, the lagoon entertains 10 times more visitors and that scares me...

a professional webmaster would be very happy... but I am not a professional webmaster and I always tried to keep the lagoon like an isolated island, known by some friends only (By limiting the links on the other sites, by avoiding the diffusion of the games with marks of the website apart from the lagoon)
I do not have nor money and nor time for the management of a professional site and I ask for myself where this adventure will go up.....

I created the lagoon for fun… but sometimes fun becomes concern… so, when I have concerns, I speak about them with my friends... and I think that I have friends in the lagoon ..............

Ouh-ooh....
Thats not good news, and even if i don't know any answer to the questions which the problems u r talking about opens... I am kind of sure that we, the -like u said- "masters of the lagoon", will be able to show u ways to solve the problems.
Its out of my imagination that the sharkies could let the lagoon go out of ur (and our) hands.
Time will tell, and together we sure find solutions.
Anyway - great to see that u Shark r so modest to comprise us with the worries u have.
We will save the lagoon!

Shark, isn't the requirement to either play D&S on-line or be a paid rabidshare user (not a misspelling;-) causing most of the problem? I know you want to protect your games, and your copyright and "authorized web-site" statement might not be enough. You could always require a "touch" from the download when it was executed if you had to. So you might have to chose between over-protecting the game or losing the lagoon?

the downloadable version of DAS is a not-compressed version (30147 Ko for DAS1 and 37700 Ko for DAS2)
They are big files which have two advantages:
- A good quality for the pictures
- A dissuasion to put the game online on another site (need much band-width)

I think what you really need is a better server and bandwidth as long as you don't want to stop the growing community.
Some years ago I rented a dedicated server and it's less than 40€/month. I did so because I ran a game server. For web and download servers this can go down to 7-8€/month for a virtual root server.
Of course you need to run this server - it's not just a board, it's a full server but you should get a bandwidth of 100MBit/s or better.
This site has outgrown something like aceboard for a long time.

Now you a double dilemma, yes? How to maintain the lagoon but also where to relocate?

Re funding, would any of the sites which provide links to your games be prepared to pay to have their links mirrored, if that is the right word, on Sharks Lagoon, whenever and/or wherever you may relocate?

You can have low budget space at One and Amen, but of course you still need to pay. What troubles me more is that your PayPal has been blocked... how have the guys from PayPal been conceived, in a labo-test-tube or by good old plain fucking?

I tried to google "One and Amen" and got nothing substantial, and then tried "One" and "Amen" separately to no avail. If Shark has no idea about that server it might be best to email/PM the details to him.

Um? I love that comment of Felix, the very last bit, could well be lost on those where English is not their native language though (which is a pity).

Another thought. If Shark doesn't want to provide links to where his games are currently hosted, might there be willing sponsors out there who might care to offer support? That might mean some adjustments to "The Rules", in particular voiding general access to the "a href", er sorry, it's "url" tag at aceboard but open to admin and moderators.

That would mean no unauthorised active links on the site, and deter spammers/etc who so wish to post; a link that says KissMe.com is going to get less business than KissMe.com, yes?

If the Felix idea is good, how would it transact financially against the current arrangement? No, Shark. Don't tell us, that's a personal matter, but one on which you can think.

Sorry guys about creating another mystery as if getting Alancy in the sack isn't difficult enough...:
One = One.com at http://www.one.com/en/
and
Amen is at (for France) http://www.amen.fr

They both have very cheap rates for hosting websites, you should check their 'politics' for nude content though...

one.com is out:
"Illegal material is not permitted on any of One.com's servers, whether this be images, film cuts or hyperlink images or
suchlike material. Nor is it permitted to store erotic, pornographic or other offensive material on servers owned by
One.com. It is entirely One.com's decision to determine whether material belongs to one or more of the above
categories, and the company reserves the right to delete any such material at any time without notice. In the event of
such material being deleted the customer cannot advance any claim against One.com related to the deletion."

And as far as I understand amen as well: "8.3 on behalf of yourself and for any other party using your access to the Hosting Services or the E-mail Services:
8.3.1 not to use such Services in such a way which, ... (d) is pornographic, obscene, indecent, abusive, offensive or menacing;"

But there are providers who allow any legal content, e.g. http://english.keyweb.de/keyweb/agb.shtml

"8. Published Contents / Saved Data
The customer sets Keyweb free from any liability for the content of transmitted websites on the account / server. He will not violate any trademark, patent or other rights of third parties. The customer himself is responsible for the content of the sites. Keyweb is allowed to cancel the contract without notice and lock the account / server immediately if the content of the sites breaches applicable law, illustrates a third party in a negative way or results public trigger. Keyweb is not dutybound to check the customer´s data. We are authorized to disable the offer of the purchaser instantly if he arranged things on his server which influence the operating behaviour of the server or take up more than 20 % of the system capacity / system resources. Further on we do not tolerate own chat systems IRC / IRC-Bots ( it only applies to shared server) without having agreed in a written form per letter post (not via e-mail). Also we do not permit pure download, video, file sharing of portals as well as streaming server except you have got a written permission of our enterprise. The customer pledges himself not to initialize promotional circulars or mass-mailings (mailing actions) without being summoned to by the e-mail receivers. In terms of the upper paragraph a reseller / purchaser is responsible for the webspace accounts of his own customers. Violatins lead to instant disabling of the account / server. Illegal contents e.g. child pornography will be made a report of at competent authorities without warning."

There are more for sure but you just have to check each provider for their terms and conditions.

IMO
I suspect something similar occurred at PayPal. Shark was always on their radar but fantasy and overlooked; the last series crossed a line someone in power does not wish to cross.

I'm a little at a loss for words - NOT a normal condition for me!!

So far there are only a few things I can think of to say:

1. DAMN glad I got my last donation when I did! I had to check dates to see if it was before the start of this thread!

2. I was a LITTLE bit pissed at PayPal for some OTHER issues (relating to "linking" my credit card to my account) - NOW I'm FURIOUS!! Hell - to be honest, the only reason I OPENED a PayPal account was to make donations here!

I don't know how much help it'll be 'cause I haven't even opened the site yet, but I found http://www.paypalsucks.com/ the other day when I was looking for something else. I'll DAMN sure be takin' a look at it NOW!

3. I know PayPal is by far the biggest outfit that does what it does, but is it the ONLY one? I'm not sure what other options might be available, but I SURE HOPE there's SOMETHING else out there - it'd be a DAMN LONG SWIM if I have to deliver cash in person!!
