Battle for the Net (Fr/En)

On July 12th, Web mobilizes for the neutrality of the Net.

Amazon, GitHub, Mozilla, Reddit, and maintaining Soundcloud, Deezer, Vimeo, Kickstarter, PornHub or Netflix, dozens of big names of the new economy as well as of numerous NGO(NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION) plan a common day of action to forbid the neutrality of the Net in front of project of the administration Trump to return on this major principle which governs Web since its beginnings.

The neutrality of the Net is the major principle which governs Internet since its beginnings. He guarantees that all the content providers, of the multinational to the government via the private individual, benefit from an identical technical treatment. This rule forbids the access providers to favor, via the speed of transmission of the packages of data, such or such contents, whatever is its nature and its audience.

Fear of an Internet at variable speed.

So, since a few years, the offensives multiply against the neutrality of the Ne). It is at present questioned by the FCC ( Federal Communications Commission), the American regulator of telecoms. His new boss, mister Ajit Pai, appointed by Donald Trump, is a long-time opponent. The mobilization dreads that eventually, D Trump creates the conditions so that it'll be " possible to slow down the flow, to block, to censor, and to charge additional costs. " for the access to certain contents, when others on the contrary would be put forward, against remuneration.

This misadventure, Netflix knew it three years ago, when Comcast forced it to pay to have a flow equal to the other contents broadcasted by the cable television company. Previously, the subscribers to Netflix via Comcast had to wait sometimes for a long time before being able to see a movie or a series... Today, Netflix reached another power. His boss Reed Hastings moreover hesitated before reuniting the mobilization of July 12th, considering at first that it was not any more its fight. Doubtless the memories of the youth of Netflix reminded him that it would not maybe be where it is today, without the neutrality of the Net...
