Je suis Charlie

What happened today (imo) was a brutal and despicable act of hate. Makes me wonder if we, as a species, are actually at the top end of the evolution process. Hate is a powerfull emotion and has the most devastating effect. It corrupts and leads (quite frequently) to acts of violence, be it a terrorist attack or a guy beating up his wife because his dinner was cold.

If our history has taught us something, that is the fact that hate towards our fellow men was/is often the path to war and suffering.

Noone should be afraid to speak freely, despite their beliefs or ethnicity.

Actions like these are to be condemned and I truly hope that the culprits can be apprehended and dealt with accordingly.

Unfortunately several of us here can attest to similar recent acts in our own countries, I'll cite Canada, Boston, and Sydney (Australia).
That is not to dismiss such events at the Lockerbee bombing, London Underground, Twin Towers, and the many that we barely see reported with much gravity in our own local media, like India, Pakistan, Yemen, and certainly Iraq.

That is not to minimalise Rikwar's comment but to consider it in a more global perspective (which he is obviously in his thoughts). Yes, when we can negotiate peace within our own households and extend that dipolmacy into our local communities, and then farther abroad, reconciling our differences, then I see hope for my grandchildren's offspring. It will be a long journey.

My first thought as I heard this news, was of Shark and his family. I hope all in your universe are safe.

Thanks, I suspected it was sommes, but was not at all sure of tous/tout.
I know what you mean about not understanding. "To err is human, to totally fuck-up requires a zealot"

How dare these bigotted, fanatical morons think they have the right to gun down any who offend their delicate little sensitivities! All they are doing is using the notion of offence to perpetrate evil that Mahomet himself would not even have countenanced, and he would appear to have been no innocent. If they think they have qualified themselves for Paradise, it is clear to me that the reverse is true!

We keep being told that the silent majority do not agree with these loons.
Isn't it time that their religious leaders, so noisy at other times, told them that their behaviour was an instant ticket to hell.

Hate often has no bounds.
We must understand it's not the base religion... it's the misinterpretation of it.
I can only say I'm sorry it happened. I just wish there was a way to safeguard against it.

Je pleure, mais pas en silence. Je crie, parce que:
I cry but not silently, I scream because:
je suis Charlie

If violence is the answer, can somebody explain me what the question was?

Freedom of speech is a right, in many countries. But sometimes its clearly forgotten what it means. Its a shame a tragedy liek this has to remind of what freedom really is.
