This is Dolerhyde. First things first, happy new year to all Lagooners out there and, of course, to the SHARK. Also, thanks to Greebo and Squeeky for comments regarding Fleet's enquiries. If any of my scenarios are of interest to anyone, I'd be happy to hear from you.
The Dragon's Loins have had a nice time over the holiday period ( nice time = complete over-indulgence ) but certain stirrings never die. So, for your entertainment, ( I hope! ), here's another game idea. It's basically an erotic love story told in 2 parts with only the latter half containing sex scenes ( for reasons that will be obvious ). In terms of gameplay, I thought that ' hotspots ' and timed events would fit the style of the story.
The game is set in Ireland in the early 1960's. Conor MacKenna is an 8 year old boy living on a farm surrounded by dense woodland.
( gameplay ) One night, unable to sleep, Conor gets out of bed and is drawn to the window. A strange, golden light appears from out of the woods and glides towards the farmhouse before abruptly disappearing. The next night, Conor waits at his window fully dressed and with a plan; if the light appears again, he's going to sneak out of the house and get a better look with his torch ( he's a fearless lad with that sense of adventure only children possess ). He watches as the glowing light again glides out from the woods and heads straight to the house. ( gameplay ) Conor sneaks past his parents room, down the stairs and out through the kitchen, careful not to make any noise. There are numerous obstacles to avoid at this point and any interaction with them will wake an annoyed parent and signal the end of this nights' adventure. If this happens the next ( and final night ), it's game over; the strange light never returns. Assuming success, Conor manages to sneak outside and finds a girl about his age dressed in a dirty cloth dress. If the torch is activated, he shines it at her face and her eyes glow luminescent green causing a timed event. If unsuccessful Conor will scream and run, waking his parents and forever scaring away the girl; game over. If the torch isn't used or if he beats the timed event, he confronts the girl.
She tells him she's hungry and looking for food ( Conor suspects that she's trying to steal the chicken eggs ). A good hearted lad, he takes her to the kitchen and warns her to be quiet. ( gameplay ) Conor looks for food ( apple, bread, hunk of cheese and meat are some of the items available ) and as he collects the last of 3 items there is another timed event as he bumps into the kitchen table and knocks off a bottle of milk. If he passes, the girl catches the bottle in an amazing display of agility; if he fails, the bottle smashes, wakes the parents and the girl runs, never to be seen again. Game over. ( gameplay ) Wrapping the food in cloth, Conor gives it to the girl and she introduces herself as Caidde ( pronounced Kay-dee ). She invites him to play with her tomorrow in the woods behind the house. Fascinated, Conor agrees. As she runs off clutching her food, he notices that a glow begins to envelop her, getting brighter as she runs into the woods. Curious and excited, he resolves to meet her.
The next day Conor has chores to attend to before he can ' Go off exploring ' his dad tells him. ( Gameplay ) He has to feed the pigs and chickens, collect the eggs and clean up dung in a short series of mini-games before meeting Caidde. In the daylight, Conor gets a good look at the strange girl. A shock of short, scruffy red hair, large, bright green eyes, an upturned button nose and small, pointed ears. He gawps at her and asks her if she's a fairie. She warns him that they can only be friends if he doesn't tell anyone about her, then laughs at him. The two become friends and playmates ( cut to a week later ) ( Gameplay ) They climb trees, play hide and seek ( Conor always loses ) and fish in the stream ( Conor with his fishing rod, Caidde with her hands; ) They become inseperable and when Conor turns 9 Caidde takes him deeper into the woodland until they reach a gnarled and ugly looking tree. ( Gameplay ) Pointing to the base of the tree, she tells him that this is where she lives...
Years pass and Conor divides his time between the farm, school and Caidde. Conor is now 12. His parents, after a series of ever escalating arguments, are splitting up. His mother informs him that shortly they'll be heading to London where she has relatives. Conor is heartbroken. Cut to the night before he leaves and his last meeting with Caidde. ( Gameplay ) They sit together, feet dangling in the stream and bathed in moonlight. Caidde asks him whats wrong and he finally tells her that he has to leave. She slaps him around the head ( timed event- the slap can be avoided ) and bursts into tears. She tells him that she loves him and a golden glow suddenly surrounds her. " This is what I really look like ", she says and reveals her true form. Her face is vulpine, her ears elongated and sharp, her eyes shining like bright green headlights. (timed event ) Conor screams and runs away; if he passes the timed event, he escapes the woods without further incident. If he fails, he trips and smashes into a tree, cracking his head open and dying in Caidde's arms. Game over.
This is getting a little long despite me leaving out more than I wanted to. Other gameplay in part one involves Conor's mother becoming suspicious of his daily jaunts into the woods and a revealing talk with his dad who knows more about the situation than he's letting on. Besides the gameplay, there is also extensive dialogue, especially between Conor and Caidde. Oh, and I must admit that I have 'borrowed' a bit for this one, taking the idea of a man and a magical being falling in love from a book I read in the early '90's, although everything else is mine. The Dragon's Loins rest now; part 2 coming soon. I thank you for your kind attention and hope at the very least that this has been an entertaining diversion for you.
