I'm sure all cultures have their own metaphorical symbolisms for certain occasions, like in English, "Make hay while the sun shines" - You got the b@$#%$^ chance, go do it!
Or, "Not all that glistens is gold"; as a child I lived in area where deep gold mining is now history. In school recesses we'd find rocks with lovely 'gold', yep! It shone nicely - iron pyrites!!

Now, there is another, "Empty vessels make the most noise." The Lagoon does not have such a boat of which I am aware, and the only other context that "vessel" has, in my literal mind is something from which one drinks.

i would like to point out the proverb should be "all that glistens is not gold"
It is a quote from William Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice

and the empty vessel one is basically saying, people who are stupid are noisy,eg in class, the troublemakers are most often bad at school

"Absence makes the heart grow fonder."

In my teens a "playboy" mate of mind declared:
"Absence makes the fond heart wonder!"

Heh! Heh! He had 3 girls at one time. Could go out with one on Friday night, she dumped him, he was downtown with a second next morning and met up with No.3! He got dumped by both on that meeting! Que Sera!
