Improving screenshots?

Hello all, I'm totally illiterate regarding image creating and stuff, the only experience I had was using photoshop to make weird satirical collage...
So, my question is: if I took a screenshot from a game, is there an EASY way to improve it using PS, Gimp or whatever? Like applying a filter or whatsoever..

thanks in advance

Well I guess it depends on what you want to improve?

With Photoshop:
A bit more brightness or contrast? Image->Adjustments->Brightness/Contrast
Changing colors or stronger colors? Image->Adjustments->Hue/Saturation

There are also some filters if you want to play around Filter-> Artistic-> Click on anything and a new Menu should open up with different filters/effects.

That's just some basic stuff, it really depends on what you want to do.

Showing a screenshot of something you'd like to improve, and then saying specifically what needs improved would be helpful to persons wishing to give guidance.

Now that we have a screenshot, what specific improvements do you want?

I would like to know if there was a very easy way to make it look more natural, more realistic

Play with the settings Draga suggested.

I believe one of the main issues with that screen shot is the fact that the light source that being used to light the model (and create her shadow) is only lighting the tree on the far left, this causes everything to the right of that tree to appear in one big shadow but there is no visual indication of where that one big shadow is coming from.

So the problem is the game itself? Is there a way to correct this issue with something like Photoshop or else?

I did what they told you, took me less than 1m

Now you can see her sweat better, and the background look less fake

My tip is: IF you are going to edit render the background separated, then merge they on Photoshop and add showdown and all effects.

here a thread about it:

Nice, so it's jut a matter of adjusting those 2 settings? Is there a way to, I don't know, simply save a setting with let's say X saturation/Y contrast and simply apply it to a set of similar pictures?

Dude, you don't need to save presets:
 • You will take less the 30s to adjust each
 • You may change the setting to adjust every pic better, so a preset won't help
 • You don't have to use just those 2 settings, you can use almost all setting on "Image>Adjustments" till you have a satisfactory result
