Ismael almost WAS Lucas. (-: When we were just getting started, Mortze did 4 potential faces for Lucas. We quickly cut it down to 2 and then spent a while discussing which we should go with. The two were effectively Ismael and Lucas. There were pros and cons. I thought carefully about the negative reaction to Life with Keeley. Would the same feelings that made people not like playing a female make them not like playing a black man? (Major kudos to Super for making a game where you play a black female! viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3948)

In the end, though, I looked at the two of them and said, "Um, this is the one I'd like to spend my time staring at." I find Ismael to be very attractive, and could easily have played a game about him. But have you seen Lucas? OMFG.

(And, by the way, one of my favorite players told me that his girlfriend spent the game ogling Lucas. So, victory!)

Money from the Tora ones is basically split between us. I'm fine with Mortze sending Tora perks to his patrons. Now that I'll be working on Pandora, we'll likely send Pandora games to Tora patrons. I'm mostly doing the P a t r e o n thing for Mortze, so I'm happy with people supporting either one.

Wow, you're a very generous business partner then.

You should've expected that. 90% of those sites do it for the money, they have little respect for anyone.
The moment you put your work behind a paywall, even a temporary one, you open the door for them.

LRM wrote:Shark likes to promote and play all games... but he hates to become an advertising venue for any pay site.
Lately everyone that wrote a game came here to post a link to their pay site (never to post here again) and Shark tired of seeing them.
Anyone can still come here and discuss their game... you just can't post a link unless it's completely free to all.

I see your point. I've seen it in other forums, people dropping by just to make a topic for their own game. I respect your decision.

Hey! You never shared those 2 sets of information with me! :D

tlaero wrote:I know the "information should be free" people exist. Those people can rot in hell. It is not unreasonable for me to ask people to keep their privileged early copies to themselves for fourteen bloody days.

I'll add a nuance here. From my point of view, the "information should be free" has nothing to do with "everyone's work should be free". Those information freedom defenders should think about other peoples profiting from THEIR work and THEIR time and see how hypocritic they will sound. I do not mind that my games are free to play for everyone in the world. What I do mind is for people to make money on my sweat and time WITHOUT even asking for permission.

Wouldn´t it be a better strategy, to let your P-Supporters play your game just online for the first two weeks and after that releasing it for everyone free as a downloadable version? I don´t know how much it would cost, but you´ve got an expert with Mortze. He literally did that with Pandora as I remember and it went quite well :) I also don´t think that there would be veeery much lag due to server traffics, because it´s just for a limited amount of players ;)

Other than that, I like your current idea of rewarding your long-term P-Supporters. I think it is also a good strategy against the file sharing issue. I don´t think that a sharer, would support/pay for a game monthly. Soo yeahh, keep it strict, give this game to P-Supporters, who donated for at least 3 months, and make it free for the rest of the world after two weeks. I´m pretty sure, it wouldn´t end on these file sharing sites.

Could we just stop talking about this Pat thing - or migrate the discussion to a proper thread - and focus on talking about the game itself? What did you like or dislike and what can we do to get better?

In an effort to drag the conversation back to the new game, I'd like to mention something that has occurred to me and see if there is anything to discuss. In each of the first 3 games of the larger, ongoing story-arc, we have met the main character(s) of the next game in a brief, apparently unimportant scene. In DwE, we met Jessika (and SeraB) in the stairwell during a fire alarm evacuation. The alarm was at first thought to be a hoax but we later learned it was an important plot point. In RfJ, we met Miranda (and Elsa) at the bookstore when Marc went in searching for a book. It turned out that Lucas and Xara were also there but we didn't see them. Both Miranda's assessment of Marc and the book are also plot points.

Now, in FM, we meet several apparently inconsequential people throughout the game. Maybe I am a "fact geek," but it can be fun to speculate on who might be the center of the next story. Who do you think we will see again? Note that in the paragraph below I mention characters in the new game. If you haven't yet played it, you might want to skip it until you have a chance to finish the game.

My candidates are, in no order, Vince the bouncer/DJ, the baccarat dealer at the casino and the mother/son who are seen entering the rock concert while Lucas and Vince are waiting for Jessica and Marc. The "sisters" are also strong candidates. The main characters so far have been women so it would seem we can eliminate Vince (along with Ismael) but I think we will see one or the other of them in the future even if not in a starring role. Who else might be the next "star?"

Keeping things on topic, spoilers for anyone who hasn't finished the game yet.

I think its likely we'll see the sister's again, Tlaero mentioned in a post above that the sister's have a power and Miranda noticed it which is why she told them about Xara. That to me is a strong indicator we'll see them again, thought whether as the stars of a game or simply with a more expansive supporting role remains to be seen. I also think it's likely we'll see the baccarat dealer again, she clearly knows Miranda and knows that her boss is evil (though how much she knows is unclear). However based on the scene after the credits/wishful thinking I think Chloe will get a bigger role in the next game. We now know that she was Xara's mole in the bad guys operation but has lost his trust. I think she's important enough to the story (more so now given we know her connection to Miranda and the bad guy) that she won't be just cast aside now but it's unclear what she'll do next.

I would agree that Chloe is changing in her role and could be a main character - kind of a "Rescuing Chloe" sort of thing. I also note that with her out as a source of information inside the operation, another mole might be needed. Since the dealer is already there, it makes her a possibility.

one more vote for the "sister" .... Miranda already told us
I think the mother entering the rock concert is a sort of self referencing, not a hint on next gamer

Well, not the second one. That just happened. But the first I certainly did. I even told that story to patrons in the perk where we showed the picture with the 4 potential Lucases. (-:

Speculation on upcoming games

I'm enjoying the speculation you folks are doing. By all means keep it up. I certainly know what the next Tora game will be, and Mortze knows too, but we're not sharing. (-:

That said, I'm going to take one of them off the table, somewhat obliquely.

You're never going to get to play a game where you date the cute middle aged woman who went to the concert with her son. I'll let you folks figure out why...

Tlaero

In my opinion, like did A Hitchcok or Q Tarentino, we speak about "Special Guests" in the concert... ;)

Re: Finding Miranda (publicly released)

Postby tlaero » Thu, 16Dec15 06:20

Okay, Christmas is coming a bit early this year. I've decided to release the game now. It's available to everyone at this link.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/maidcaieofkctdg/FM.zip

If you're ever on a site that points to some other place to get it, please point them to this link instead. Those sites are blood sucking parasites, and they should be squished.

However, Leo has my full permission and blessing to put FM on PlayForceOne. He's legit.
