Rasti, when I very initially saw that I thought that the image had been "washed out" but then I realised that we probably have the sun just above the horizon.

Only after your comment did I really look closely at the light, and I guess only one working with media would fully appreciate this.

I think that I am seeing light passing through a window built of multiple glass tiles patterned with various thicknesses. That explains to me the shadows within the light areas, but I'm not even going to try to consider the nature of the light filter which created them. Lovely!

It is called Volumetric lighting. Something not all 3D platforms support. It is very effective when done right.

It's a single spotlight (defined as such in Luxus, a Daz Studio plug-in) shining at a shallow angle through a stained glass window, with a DAZ cube primitive 'in the room' set up to be a volumetric material in Luxus and then all passed on (via Luxus) to LuxRender. I waa hoping that a little more (some?) colour from the glass would be picked up but this is still at the trying out various options level ;)

I was slightly disappointed that the second one wasn't the same size as the first. I shall have to see whether it can be embiggened to fill my screen without losing anything. I agree with Rastifan on that one Ehlanna -- extremely good!

Edit: Expanding it to fill the height of the screen is okay, but I get this feeling I'd prefer a less square aspect ratio, although of course you have composed within a 1:1 aspect ratio

@Greebo: The scene composition, from top left corner (with the chair's left top) to the bottom right (with the girl's head) pretty much dictates an aspect ration of 1:1. If you like I can have a tweak and twiddle to adjust aspect ratio (and up the size at the same time) - any preferences?

@Others: thanks, I am rather pleased with the result :)

Don't pay too much attention to my aspect ratio preferences, Ehlanna, they are definitely secondary to the overall composition, which I love. Maybe my eye is happiest when something is close to the "golden ratio"

Ehlanna,
it really depends upon the mood, the atmosphere that you are trying to project.

Yes, that latter rendition is clearer with detail but there is still something about the first if you wanted something that suggested a somewhat misty morning with the sun struggling to get through.

It's all a matter of the artist's purpose.

 Oh, Ehlanna -- just for little old me? You shouldn't have! I was actually thinking landscape rather than portrait, but that works as far as I'm concerned and it makes me feel ...special!
