Superspy Steve: Oct 8th Final Beta Testing

Hi everybody :)

I really love that I've been able to get feedback several times along the way to publishing (or beta testing) my stuff. It's awesome.

SuperSpy Steve: The Origin Story is a dating sim / visual novel made in Ren'py - the download should work in Mac, Windows, Linux (have tested Mac and Windows 10).

What it's got so far:
* story driven prologue with some special effects
* game GUI with variables and attributes that players will maximize while playing
* encounters that are way to fast with all five of the date-able women in-game
* nearly four weeks of content and 99% of the planned timeline built into the game.

The size is 1280 by 720 / full HD and all of the images are optimized; so the compressed file is nearly 115mb for the patch version; full version is ~1.8 gigabytes.
Sept 11th 2016 latest version

It's got a lot more content, four weeks worth of unique game play and five unique endings.

The download is about 1.9 gigabytes, thanks to optimization. At present, the overall game is now 99%+ complete - in other words, except for bugs, consider this, "It."

Download the latest complete version via Mega:

If you give it a shot, please let me know what you think of everything!

I like the way the game is laid out and the models are attractive. It's got a good story, a clear goal to accomplish, and you have options on how to get there. In my opinion, there's only 2 issues with it. One is it takes you an hour to get into your house. Unless you mean travel time? And instead of going home to use the computer to promote the dealership, how about using a computer in an office at the dealership? Other than those minor issues, you've got a great game. Had to edit.. just occurred to me that the animations are a little on the slower side but it's smooth and is believable.

I played it in Window mode and you see the picture is moving sometimes down. This moving is not so good for the eyes. You see the place/standard line from the pictures are not the same places and some pictures are moving I hope you can fix it.

problem is worse then that, if you go find the images in the directory (one of the few ren'py game that doesn't hide images) you'll find that on quite of bit of them the models are floating above the ground.

Now for the rest, you wanted us to leave feedback. Personally i don't get where the story is going. At the funeral we can clearly see the main character and his buddy in army clothes, but next he is working as a car salesman. Uncle had a debt and now you have to pay it off, sure i get that. But what has the title to do with being a salesman.
For mechanics, most text is missing and real feedback in game on stat growth isn't even there.
My conclusion: it needs to be working all first before I can give solid feedback., however I do like the idea and if your planning on the game is half of what i am expecting it to be, it might end up great. Just fix those floating issues etc.

Yeah I liked it, models look great. I had no problems running it on windows 10 64 full screen mode.

Really appreciate all the feedback, just a quick note to say I edited the post to include a link to the prologue + the initial game, including several days of content.

All the scenes have dialogue for several encounters, etc.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts :) More renders are also on my blog.

Hm, there isn't need for a key - the URL I posted includes the key so that you can simply click and download via Mega.

I'm having a network issue between my Mac & PC so I just downloaded the May 20th update to the PC to validate it works and clicking the link, then downloading via Mega worked fine. Copying & pasting might not work as because the display URL seems to be truncated (at least to me).

You're right. Key is included. And yes don't copy and paste. When you hover the cursor over the link, in the lower left corner should be a tool tip that shows the entire address. However, if you right click on the link a menu should show up where you can open the link in a new window or tab and even copy or save the link.

The visuals are nice and I'd have to say so far so good. I'll wait to see how the game develops further before offering any other critiques of the game. It seems to me like it's a take on old 80's action movies where the protagonist is a highly trained combat specialist settling into civilian life when he is set upon by criminal forces who just messed with the wrong man. This actually makes me a little excited to see where the story is going. I really haven't seen this older mainstream genre explored in a dating sim like this before.

One bug I encountered is that on day one I went home and just started building my computer skill by using the computer over and over. I could keep going forever and the sleep animation never triggered until I left (I was at hour 30:00 on day one by the time I left) and did something else which then triggered the end of the day. It was then Day 2 at 8:00 and my computer skill was around 200+.

Where's your blog at?

http://www.vpsnice.com/

If it's allowed.

Otherwise googling "jilliangates superspy" brings up 1 result and is the blog.

Just a quick clarification: that's not the URL for my game blog...my ebook blog is more than a bit out of date and while more popular, has nothing with my animation on it. (It's a long story and yes, I am going to combine the two eventually).

The URL for my blog is: http://104.131.156.199/

However, even if you visit, you'll likely find that the stuff I post is more current here in the lagoon, or on DeviantArt, than my blog.

Just a question, because it's not clear, is this beta the complete game? Or is more like an alpha and the game is still unfinished? (in my case, I prefer to play games once they are complete)

The game is defiantly unfinished. The story premise is laid out in the intro in one huge exposition dump at the beginning which I hope will become more refined as the game progresses. As far as I can tell there is no way to progress the story yet. There is a lot of dialogue that I hope is placeholder dialogue at this time as well. In one location in particular (the bank) the dialogue is defiantly unfinished. You can meet the girls in the game and see what skills you will have in the game and how you will build them. It gives you an idea of what will be in the game and what you will be doing but is very unpolished at this point with the exception of the sex animations.

...So far: I like the idea of the story, it has potential if well developed, I like the characters and the fact there are some different locations.
I guess it's an early, early version of what it could be, so there's not too much to say about it.
If an advice could be welcome I'd suggest to move the deadline to 15 days instead of only 7, it would help something to be more real, as an example the girl showing off to your business saying she wants to fuck you before the girl from the bank. To have a 15 days deadline could give her the chance to introduce herself, then to became close a little, then to explain there's this sort of rivalry with the other girl and they had bet on who was going to fuck you first.
Just my two cents.

It has potential! I'll love to play it :)
