The Handyman's Wish: A brief Adult Dating Sim Experiment

Hi ya'll;

I'm very interested in getting feedback on the Ren'py games I've made (the one, and now this one). Pretty please?

What this project is:
A brief, no frills dating sim - well, a date more like with a few options for the ending.
The writing was done pretty quickly, as with the rest of the content.
Animation - good? No good?
Plot - wait, what plot?

Orientation = straight, given that some folks have mentioned they aren't into lesbians.

I'm going to stray from your topic a little...
Ms Jillian you'll drive yourself crazy and be miserable if you try to make everyone happy. Offer the game you prefer. In time your tastes will expand some and you'll build a following of like minded people.
Odds are someone will complain about the lack of woman on woman in this one.
The hardest person for me to please is me! I recommend you concentrate on self satisfaction.

I agree with LRM. Make your own game with your own preferences, don't exclude or include something cause others (don't) like it. Everyone got their own preferences. Currently you said for example there is no plot, that is unfortunately a big turnoff for me. Does that mean you need to include a plot? Nope, do what you want to do. i still am going to check out what you did.
There is only 1 exception to that, and that is when releasing your games on certain sites, forums etc. Check their rules. If your game would be against them, you wasted some time and effort in posting it there, cause the chance is high that it gets removed

Those same people that say they aren't probably are, as long as they are a guy fantasizing banging them. Or playing a lesbian that due to circumstances ends up doing a or a bunch of dudes, they like that too.

Don't worry about it, make something you like to make, it ends up showing in the games you make.

Looks very rushed. Ten seconds in and you have a spelling mistake "Becauase". You need to make the game you want and not what others want.

It looks good. The art was very nice again. I'm assuming that you're looking for constructive feedback and won't take my criticisms too harshly.

The kinetic novel idea is nice but is it worth it? It takes a lot of time to render all those pictures to give the impression of movement and it doesn't add too much to the game. Most of the pictures are variations of the characters standing around. I would rather have fewer pictures of higher quality. I'm biased as an AIF fan, but I would also rather have fewer pictures and better writing.

I know you just dashed off the writing, but the story and characters are fairly important for these games. It doesn't need to be Shakespeare but there needs to be some meat. If I wanted to watch animations, I would just watch a porn video. There should be a longer build-up before the sex. There needs to be sex in the game, but usually the sex ends up being a small percentage of the playtime. The characters talk way too much during the sex scenes. I would rather have more descriptions of what's happening and what the characters are feeling. The 4th-wall breaking is annoying.

Here are some quibbles about the art:

Vanessa's clothing is fitting strangely under the breasts. I find that happens with autofit clothes on certain generations of genesis. Also, the man's hair sticks out too much in front.

With your kinetic novel thing, the angles of the characters keep changing and are inconsistent with the backgrounds. It's distracting. Although the camera angles keep changing, they are also mostly the same angles. If you had fewer pictures, you could experiment with more dramatic and better looking angles. There should be close-ups of faces and sex.

Your figures sometimes float in the air. You should drop them to the ground. If that's too hard, you should disable your shadow catcher. Without shadows, I wouldn't notice that the figures are floating.

The blowjob animation was too jerky and seemed unnatural. The previous animation you had before that was smooth but robotic was better.

The sex animation had very nice smooth movement. But there were lots of strange shadow changes for such a small amount of movement. Are your lights too close to the characters? Could you use larger more diffuse mesh lights? Or use an IBL light? Or bounce more of the light off of the walls so that it is indirect?

Overall, it was a good effort. It shows a lot of promise. I'm looking forward to seeing a longer game from you.

Very detailed feedback, thank you.

I caught the spelling mistake; and mostly what I was curious about this this experiment was "How well does Ren'py deal with animations?" Instead of simply squishing things into a gif, I had to use each frame, then setup a pause between images, etc.

Re: lighting - it's something I'm still struggling with in iray, I prefer the look of things rendered in that vs 3delight, but, it also creates a challenge. I'll try to make sure other renders are more consistent.

Sex as a % of the total is a great way to look at the game development. Sadly, I've only been focused on the game end of things for a few months and most of that time has still been on render, pose, animate etc in Daz, less on code, develop + test.

I'm definitely going to make a longer game. Before then, I really appreciate all the feedback - the good and the bad, otherwise, I'd have nothing to improve.

(the reason I started trying to make a game in the first place was finding this forum and trying everybody else's stuff - very inspiring. My personal goal is to make something I love which hopefully is entertaining for other people).

Happy Friday. :)

That line is good news, now just forget about that other thing you said.

If he makes the game he wants it will be a better game, @op stop worrying about what others want, make the game you want and then if you like it others will.

You need to like your own game before others will.
