Have you ever considered using realtime renderer,such as CryENGINE FREE SDK,I tried it back in 2009 to created some landscape scenes,got amazing graphics @1440*900 60fps with a GTX 260.It's quite user friendly,and no more time consuming rendering,just export current frame at any resolution.
