MAC and Linux testers wanted

Postby fleet » Mon, 13Mar18 16:52

I've written a very short (under a minute) test visual novel that supposedly can be played using a browser. I've tested it on Windows XP and Windows 7, and it works using Mozilla Firefox (the game uses java and html 5)

I'd like to know if the VN can be played using browsers on Mac and Linux computers. Supposedly it should work in Mozilla on MAC and Linux, but I'd like confirmation. Also I'd like to know if it will work on other MAC and Linux browsers (besides firefox).

Testers would need to report the following:
Does the VN open?
What browser (please specify version number) did you use?
If it does open, does the sound work (one scene uses a wav file)?
Does the menu work?
Does the animation work (one scene uses an animated GIF)?

If you want to test and are willing to report back, send me a PM and tell em what operating system you use,a nd I'll send you a link to the zipped file.

very respectfully,
fleet

It seems to work fine using Firefox 19.0.1 to open index.html. First page comes up almost instantly with "Victor's Story" and it progresses naturally up to and including the animation and sound effects.

Using Chromium 25.0.1364.160 it is a different story, despite local cookies and javascript being enabled. Open index.html and the black screen has an eternal progress indicator with no sign of the box containing "Victor's Story".
According to the Chromium JavaScript Console:

Thanks for letting me know about the success with Firefox in Ubuntu.
I suspected there would be problems with Chrome on Ubuntu. The guy who is developing the program said it doesn't work in stand alone mode with Chrome. It doesn't work in stand-alone mode with either Chrome or IE 9 in Windows 7. I could not get it to work with either Opera or IE 8 in Windows XP.

It will be interesting to hear what NapoleonSolo has to say.

Hi fleet,

On my Mac I used Firefox 19.0.2. It loaded okay and both the animation and the sound worked fine, although the text did get smaller from the third "slide" onwards but I'm assuming this is just how the text is written. When I tried it on Safari 6.0.2 it all worked the same as Firefox except the sound did not play during the gif. When I tried it on Google Chrome 25.0.1364.172, I got the same error results as Greebo. Opera on the Mac didn't work either. I hope this helps.

Regards

@NapoleonSolo, Thank you very much for testing, and providing feedback.
The change in text size was a mistake I made.
