What should I replace Rapidshare with?

Postby tlaero » Sun, 12Dec09 04:41

Apparently, Rapidshare has implemented download limits and people can't download AdventureCreator any more. I'm taking recommendations for an alternative. Criteria:
1) It's got to be able to hold stuff indefinitely and not impose heavy download restrictions. (Not THAT many people are downloading from my Rapidshare site.)
2) It's got to be anonymous.
3) It's got to be free.
4) It's got to let me delete files I no longer want. (ie, old versions of AC)

Hi Tlaero, Ive been using Hotfile for a couple of years now as a free registered user, all my uploads have never been deleted, 'ex: Sarah html fixes in the walkthrough section as been there for nearly 2 years, as other tools and apps for other forums, you have total control as for what you mention, also there's no captcha and ads !

Thanks folks. I'll check those places. Spacebee, AdventureCreator has no nudity, but I'll also store any future games there and probably move my existing ones too. There's definitely nudity in them.

Hi Tlaero

If you want I can always host it on my website.
I can set you up an account so you can upload and delete if you like.

Sy,
That is a most gracious offer. I do have some concerns however which start with the link of your first comment re Uni Dreams Demo. That is not available. I have located your homepage but have to ask about the permanency of that location; you won't be absconding SA, running off to France in the near future? Tlaero would obviously need to know that.

I would suggest MediaFire.
As far as I know, you could even use Dropbox.

I wouldn't use any OCH for absolutely legal content, there's always some disadvantage in them (timer, low speed, files deleted after some time).

I've always had good experiences downloading from mediafire, don't recall waiting times and it has decent download speeds. Given the number of RAGS games that are hosted there I wonder how strict they are about nudity and stuff.

There's always divshare - you'd need to create a (free) account, but downloads are anonymous.

Thanks everyone. I went with Hotfile, but if they start giving me trouble, I'll look into the other ones you posted.

Hi Squeeky

When did you try that link? I just tested it. It's fine you might have clicked on it when the host company were doing maintenance it was down Monday morning for a while due to said maintenance.

I do have two sites at the moment the first one which is http://www.bachelor-adventures.net is my old one and it will be gone soon.
The current one which i will be keeping is the http://www.sylent3d.com

The reason i am getting rid of the first one is it got hacked so if you try to go to it from Google it diverts you I did not have a backup of it so I could not restore it things are different with the new one.
plus I prefer the smaller domain name.

I'll third mediafire. Never used it from a host perspective, but from a downloader perspective it's always been fast with no wait times. I'm always excited when people have a mediafire link for their stuff.

@sylakone2
Thanks Sy,
It was certainly Monday that I checked.
Just prior to this I checked on the zipfile got a "problem on page error" but the zip is now downloading.
