Took a while for me as well, as I am really terrible at these things as well, but it was surpricingly entertaining. I had no loading issues ( I use firefox, ) however I got the same bug as previous poster that 3 of the pieces, ( I off course forgot to take screenshots to show you the particular ones, ) got clipped when I rotated them. One of them actually fitted in clipped version and not in the extended version. For me at least it only applied to 3 of the pieces so it didn't have any significant impact on my ability to solve it, but it might be worth looking into if you want the game to be perfect.

There is a new version (source updated as well) that solves the clipping problem when a tile is rotated. The tiles are now slightly bigger (which you cannot see due to the alpha channel) so that the rotated original fits in the frame.

By the way this example shows how to set the rows and columns in the applet's parameters.

Ah! Worked well! Pieces locked together nicely, like magnets when they matched correctly.

The lovely array of colours DiTo used too added somewhat to the challenge.

I like it when women say that :-)

By the way you're all free to use the puzzle code.
You can copy the puzzle.jar as well as the source code of the above mentioned page. Then just amend the parameters, namely:
width and height for the screen dimension of the puzzle window,
src for the picture to load and break up in tiles,
rows and columns for the tile matrix. The rows and columns should be picked so that a tile is more or less of square size. Make sure the window is larger than the picture or you won't see the tiles.
To make the download easier I packed everything you need into one archive at http://secretpaste.org/puzzle/puzzle-example.zip

That's all.

(As it's open source the archive contains the source code as well)

Well, you know, if you heard that so many times in the last decades it's getting hard to judge in which context it's meant ;-)

To which "jigsaw" puzzle might you be referring?

Hey Craban,

I got a kick out of this puzzle - gotta say, with DiTo's color scheme, it was harder than I first guessed it'd be.

Just as a programming bit - with NO knowledge of how hard it'd be to implement, I'd like to make a suggestion.

I had a number of episodes where I found pieces that obviously belonged together, but I had no idea where they fit into the frame, or even which way the assembly was supposed to be oriented. When I finally figured out where these assemblies fit into the overall picture, I had to move and rotate each piece of the assembly individually and reassemble them in the proper location.

Would it be easy or possible to modify the program to make it so that an assembly can be moved/rotated as a single piece?
When it comes to binary, there are 10 kinds of people - those who get and those who don't!

@Newdood:
While Craban is apparently a quite experienced programmer, and I haven't tried to view the freebie code provided yet (downloaded, yes), but I expect that to permanently link entities and then manipulate them as a single entity may not be easy.

Also Craban is not the author of the code and could therefore take sometime to understand it.

Personally I love that capability.
