Hi,

I'm planning to build an HTML game according to the style of Virtual Date Girl.
The difference between my work and VDG is that I'll use one XML file, one or two JS file, one HTML file and several related files to generate the main game content.

Currently I'm working on the game framework, and it's almost done 80%. The rest are about the interactive user action functions to be defined.

Once the framework done, I'll jump to another hugh work on the story and resources.

Here're the potential issues with me:

I've no experience on how to work an image like the ones in VDG, or effect of shark's game graphic.

Is there some quick tutorial someone can refer to?

And with what software?

If anyone have some good tutorial resouces for 3D model creation, please help me up, thanks!

Besides, what a hugh pain using unstable proxy to access shark's forum! No idea while the home page is avialable but the forum page is not. Is there a better free proxy for FF than the Tor plugins?

PS: current I try to build a game like VDG style. But once I get familiar with 3D model build, I'll try to build some flash game like the nice ones shark done.

I'm not expert, but I believe you'd need to use a 3D modelling program like Daz3D or Poser

They both have tutorials on their sites, and Renderosity has some video tutorials as well.

Okay, I've played around with the Daz3D software, but I can't seem to get it to do what I want. I can change the clothes and hair, but I can't create anything and I can't seem to get any sort of nudity on my models.

Is there somewhere that I can get these skins perhaps? I'm trying to do this with only freeware, so I'm not sure if it's possible.

In the short term, until you may hear from successful users of the software, is there not a Q&A or FAQ at the Daz3D site? What about their tutorials? Or try a Google for a Daz3D Forum. Sorry, best I can offer.

The free way that I know is to get the basic version of DAZ Studio, collect a few of the freebies available (the basic V4 Victoria 4 from DAZ is a must) and just have a play:

http://download.cnet.com/DAZ-Studio/300 ... 17523.html <-- the program

http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=4783 <-- Victoria 4
http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=9357 <-- Stephanie 4
http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=5980 <-- Aiko 4
http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=7877 <-- Michael 4
http://www.antonkisieldesigns.com/~akfi ... figure.htm <-- Apollo Maximus

Those will give you the basic program and 3 female models and 2 male. That leaves them bald and unclothed. Clothes and hair can also be found for free (The link for Apollo includes some basuc clothes, etc. - very impressive resource considering it is free). Take a little care with selecting - read any documentation on the item as you may end up getting just a series of MATs which enhance/modify an existing item and not the actual item itself (I speak from experience!).

http://www.most-digital-creations.com/w ... llyGon.zip <-- free female character, with 'nudity'

There ARE free hair and clothes available out there - sharecg and most digital creations are good places to look for free things.

I find the hardest things to track down for free are decent backgrounds and scene setting things. The worst thing I find with 3rd party zips of this stuff is that sometimes the paths to the required resources they use are incorrect and you need to manually 'tweak' things (read: edit the files!)

What is useful, too, is some of the free poses, as they will get you started with a decent initial pose which can then be played with and adjusted to suit your wishes.

Another thing to look for is all the Morphs available for the various objects. These will be on Characters (character is mis-leading as it 'just' means a 'complex' model constructed of 'bones' (bones being the articulations that permit flexible posing). The options of Morphs change as different 'bones' in the character are selected, so I suggest (in the Scene tab) going through each level of bone hierarchy to find what Morphs are available.

Thanks a lot for your Daz3D tips Ehlanna, I've already got the main program but I think I'll download some of your suggested freebies.

By the way, have you tried using any of the non-free add-ons like genitalia from Renderotica, or the like? Some of them look as though they might be quite realistic, but the problem with items you have to buy is that you don't quite know what they're going to be like without trying them or getting a reliable recommendation.

I have (and my bank manager hates me for it!) bought a few of the add-ons. I will see what I can produce to showcase them so you know what they can do.

Ok, quick and dirty does it ...
Basic V4.2 (with no DAZ Morphs loaded) with Standard MAT for skin, using the Anatomically Correct (there is a more recent version which I do not have) and UpFront from 'most digital creations':

This screen shot shows the character 'posed' a little, to expose some 'detail':

The render comes out as:

Next we pose the character a little more, and twiddle the dials a little in DAZ:

Then the render:

A major issue will be in the area of pubic hair - that will be available, some times, with MAT files, mostly not. There are ways round that, but they involve copying and modifying existing model files

He!He! "... to get me started ..."

... Ehlanna has given you some kind of Viagra? [Just kidding]

Actually there is a lot of information offered, and some of it will need some research rather than parasitic dependencies of which we are well aware.

Thanks Ehlanna.

Nice examples Ehlanna.

For anyone thinking about playing with these models, check out: http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/victor ... t=838&_m=d

V4 is on sale until the end of the month. Note that "Pro" includes "Complete" which includes "Morphs++". Don't buy more than one of them!

The most important thing to buy with V4 is Morphs++. That enables the ability change her body and face shapes, which lets you make lots and lots of different characters with one model.

Complete isn't much more than Morphs++ and includes some beachwear and some hair. Pro is a harder sell. It does have some more hair and some better textures (to make her look more realistic). When I was deciding what to buy, I skipped Pro and used the money to buy some hair I liked better.

Hey what can I say 'Squeeky' what ever gets me started

Although I know it wont be all cut and dry and do expect some trial and error, but figure if others can do it well !

Thanks tlaero, for the extra info, will start with the free stuff first til I get the hang of it ;)

Rikwar,
Getting started! Yes.

I've looked at Activ8or, Daz3D, something from AutoDESK (3D Studio?) and 'trialled' some other packages which would cost me more than I can afford. ['trialled' means I downloaded a 30 day package but the 'learning curve' was too steep for me to get any real value from it.]

I'm either impatient, impetuous or both. I think with the Free Daz3D I may have downloaded a package did not contain a model, just add-ons probably explains some of my failures.

If you are going to spend some time and effort with DAZ Studio I would echo tlaero and suggest obtain the Morphs++ 'set'. A lot of the very good free stuff often makes use of them.
Also stroll past http://www.most-digital-creations.com/freestuff.htm often, Adam Thwaites adds freebies frquently and every so often a 'surprise, limited edition freebie' is listed at the bottom of his all products page - http://www.most-digital-creations.com/p ... oducts.htm - ironically it was updated today (it seems to happen every two weeks or so?)
A visit to the DAZ new products/promotions - http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/new-re ... t=421&_m=d - will get you a few good freebies every now and then: currently a set of rapiers and poses.
Like a lot of things you realy do need to spend a little money to get the most from DAZ Studio, but unlike so many things you can do a heck of a lot with spending nothing at all.
