Re: Navigate to Comment - tutorial

Some members have wondered how I could take a reader from a posted comment to another one somewhere else in Forums, and have it appear as though at the top of the page.

Suppose that I want to direct a reader to an update of tlaero's A tool to help write "Virtual Date" games.

At this moment there are 5 pages.
I know that what I want is on Page 5 but I can take the reader there by directly linking to that exact comment.

The comment I require is headed with an icon,Image, is followed by the time/date stamp "Posted 28/12/2010 10:34:17 (28/12/2010 01:34:17 AM)" and ends with the respective icons:

If I left click on the farthest left icon the page will refresh, the comment will be taken to the top of the page and the URL will be posted in the location bar.
For that comment the URL is http://sharks-lagoon.aceboard.fr/p-215394-2862-7057-4.htm#id112586

So I compose my comment:
---------------------------------------------------------------
Please be advised that tlaero has made a revision to her A tool to help write "Virtual Date" games.
Please go here for that link and her further comments.
---------------------------------------------------------------

For "here" I have embedded the link which I copied from the location bar of tlaero's within URL tags.

Oh! The icon selected in this case was Image , but that can vary, like, eg,

Squeeky a dit : If I left click on the farthest left icon the page will refresh, the comment will be taken to the top of the page and the URL will be posted in the location bar.
For that comment the URL is http://sharks-lagoon.aceboard.fr/p-2153 ... m#id112586.

...or you right click on the same farthest left icon (poor isolated icon) and choose "Copy link location" (in Firefox; there are similar ones in the other browsers but I've not them in my memory bank) and paste it where you want to. No need to refresh the page.

Cheers!

Fine!! When LRM asked of me (telling me that I gave him too much credit re HTML) I was more concerned with letting him see the process in a reverse manner than thinking about "Copy Image Location" [or the like]. I did use that function to address the icons.

Thanks for the feedback, and readers may choose whatever means suits their comfort.

OK, then if I interpreted your instructions properly, I should be able to create a link to the following address: http://sharks-lagoon.aceboard.fr/p-2153 ... m#id111315

Since that link points to precisely where I intended it to, all I need to do to is
[*]figure out how to embed that link behind other text in my message
[*]Let other users know that when Squeeky is talking about the left-most icon, he means the FAR-LEFT icon - the one next to the poster's name!

Some testing is this the link?

The header Icon may be any of these:
Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

I wrote this in word; I copy and paste this:
Please read this post by:
[url=[quote][color=000][url= http ~Thread to Cite ][/color] Author [/url] [/url]
L
before I copy the thread I wish to cite.

I think you get the idea.
As a game progresses and the same screams for help become apparent. I plan on copying the link to the same word document (with a jog the memory title), I refuse to compose the same answer; time and again; to the same question.

Results are consistantly good with Mozilla. Not so with IE8, the cite is not always what is expected (often top of page rather than actual cite).

Oh! God! Why can't they send me decent student??

And I'm not interested in those Memphis ones currently bearing a "used by date".

LRM,
I can see no reason why any browser should see the links any differently. For any of those IE8 posts that are "misbehaving" send me a copy of the comment text prior to you deleting what I expect are tests.

Not only what I post. Posts by anyone often display the top of the page where the actual cite resides.
The same post clicked in Mozilla goes to the correct post.
Sometimes IE8 (in my case) does act like Mozilla sometimes not. It is Microsoft...Maybe we should not be surprised!

It's because there is a period at the end of Squeeky's link. IE is picky about such things.

Try this instead: http://sharks-lagoon.aceboard.fr/p-215394-2862-7057-4.htm#id112586

No difference Graen. It is not a big deal, I can compensate. Those that have the problem and are not aware well?

I like the way her bazoom (bust; tits) extends beyond the frame too.

There is something else going on here. Three comments above is an active link. If I pass my mouse over it I see that "signatures" are represented as links, except that, prior to this comment that directly above this is unaffected (Got wood?)

Let me backtrack, this comment is written under IE8. The (Got wood?) displayed in URL colours but my own "signature" is normal.

IE8?
I'm back on FF. I tried the links as displayed under IE8 and the computer just ......

Oddly I could select variously across forums and look at contained threads.

I don't think IE5.5 gave me any issues other than creating the new window as a pop-up (er, on a different machine that is).

Dunno what to tell you, I have no problems with IE6 as long as the link is proper.

The frame just wasn't big enough... much like her clothes!

Nuh!
Back in IE8 and those links just hang .... Wonder if it has anything to do with Win 7 as a 64-bit OS?
